Global Health Is Global Wealth (आरोग्यम् धनसंपदा) – A Conceptual Artwork

global health is global wealth public health design

It is my painting. At the top of the composition is the word आरोग्यम्”, drawn in green. The colour green represents life, nature, healing, and vitality. A small leaf emerging above the word provides the idea that true health is deeply connected to nature and balance.

Below it appears the word धनसंपदा”, illustrated in a wooden, earthy texture. This choice is intentional. The wooden feel suggests that wealth is something that grows out of life’s foundation, much like branches grow from the trunk of a tree.

The design integrates global currency symbols into the letters themselves.

Each coin fits naturally into the structure of the word:

  • The small circular space in “ध” contains the $ Dollar.
  • The small circular space in “न” incorporates the € Euro.
  • The dot in “सं” is represented by the ₹ Rupee. (The ₹ Rupee coin appears slightly larger than the others — a small playful nod to India’s growing economic presence.)
  • The letter प” carries the £ Pound.
  • And in दा”, the ¥ Yen completes the sequence.

Through this arrangement, the word धनसंपदा” transforms into a symbolic representation of global wealth.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent a long period inside a quiet university campus. Almost everyone had left, and only two of us were regularly present there — the Registrar and myself. The academic block that usually hosted hundreds of people stood silent. At night, from the hilltop building, a single light would glow in the darkness. Living in that solitude gave me time to observe, think, and reflect deeply.

Those were difficult and uncertain days. People across the world were losing their lives, and many families were affected. One of my close friends and a colleague from the office — whose cabin was right next to mine — also passed away during that time. Experiences like these made the fragility of life very real and personal.

In that silence I realized something powerful: the world is far more interconnected than we usually understand. When the pandemic spread, every country suffered — not just in health, but also in economy and everyday life. That realization eventually led me to create this artwork and the idea behind it: “Global Health Is Global Wealth.”

Soon the concept started forming: health as the cause, wealth as the effect. From that realization, this artwork was born.

The idea behind this artwork became clearer during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world experienced how closely connected our lives really are.

The crisis did not affect only hospitals. Supply chains slowed, labour movement stopped, factories paused, and economies across countries felt the shock. Food, medicines, and everyday goods depend on long chains of human effort. When one link breaks, the effect spreads far beyond borders.

This reminded us that prosperity cannot exist in isolation.

Health therefore cannot remain only a personal matter, a family concern, or even just a national priority. The effort of a healthy worker in one place may indirectly support people thousands of miles away. In the same way, disruption in one region can influence societies far beyond its borders.

For this reason, the familiar phrase “Health is Wealth” needs to be understood in a broader sense. It is often seen as an individual idea, as if health benefits only the person who possesses it. In reality, the well-being of people everywhere supports the stability of the entire global system.

The COVID period also revealed something significant. Many countries were concerned about India because of its very large and dense population. Yet India managed not only to develop vaccines but also to supply medicines and vaccines to several other nations.

Perhaps that is why I could not resist placing the Rupee coin at the centre, slightly larger than the others. It is a small visual acknowledgement of the role India played in supporting global health during that difficult time.

The different currencies placed within the word “धनसंपदा” hint at the global economic system, while the green leaf above “आरोग्यम्” symbolizes health as the natural foundation from which prosperity grows.

In that sense, prosperity is not only personal or national.

It is global.

Global Health is Global Wealth.

In a world driven by economic competition, productivity, and constant growth, the value of health is often underestimated. Societies invest enormous energy in building wealth, industries, and financial systems, yet the true foundation of all progress remains the well-being of human beings.

A healthy population is not merely a social good — it is an economic necessity. Productivity, creativity, and stability all depend on the physical and mental health of people.

Recent global experiences have made this truth even clearer. Public health challenges can disrupt economies, reshape societies, and remind us how deeply interconnected our well-being truly is.

This artwork therefore serves as a quiet reminder: Our health is shared, and so is our prosperity. Global health is the foundation of global wealth.

Thank you.
